What is homepage ranking? How is ranking done?

Homepage ranking is the ranking of all the Homepages on Inpagez.com. The ranking is done on the basis of usage and viewership of all homepages. Thus if a Homepage is visited more and used more, it will gain in Homepage rank.

How are the homepage points scored?

Homepage points are scored on the basis of:

  1. Usage of Own Homepage: The more a homepage is used by the user himself, the more points he will get. Points are awarded for every hour a homepage is open in the user's browser.
  2. Clicks on the sites through homepage: For every click on the sites listed on the homepage of a user, he is awarded 2 points. Thus , for example, a user opens Yahoo Mail through the link on his homepage 4 times in a day, he scores 8 points for the same.
  3. Every visitor gives points! Every visitor who opens your homepage, GIVES YOU 5 points . So more the number of friends etc you invite to visit your homepage, the more points you add.
  4. Points from other members on the site: If any other member Adds You as a friend, you are awarded Very High Points for the same.

Everyone who opens a new Homepage is awarded 100 Startup Points...

What are rating points for different ratings?

Are these points added to the Homepage Rank points?

No. Homepage Rank points are different from Rating points and they are not connected. Rating points are individually accumulated and a user only sees his Rating Rank on the site.

How can I use RSS?

We have provided you with the facility of aggregating your RSS feeds on your homepage. Thus , if BBC news is your favourite news site, you can see the latest information from BBC on YOUR HOMEPAGE . All you have to do is to enter the code from BBC as per the details below:

Step 1 – Go to www.news.bbc.co.uk and look for this sign RSS Feed Icon
Step 2 – Click on this sign. Eg , you click on the Sports Feed
Step 3 – Reach the BBC Sports Feed page and see the link in your browser - it will be something like
              this http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/sportonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml
Step 4 – Copy this link and go to your Control Panel (you should be logged in )
Step 5 – Open the RSS feeds section and paste it in one of the feeds space and save.

What is the meaning of the section ' My Videos' ? Where can I get videos from?

We have provided this section of ' My Videos' where you can get the select your favourite videos from sites like You Tube etc and display on your homepage. We have shown some videos by default and you can change the same from your control panel.

How can I add videos from Youtube and similar sites to my Homepage?

To give an example of a Video selection from You Tube:

  1. Go to Youtube.com.
  2. Search for a Video Topic of your interest – eg Funny.
  3. Find the video you like.
  4. You will find an option of Embed (on the right side of the video).
  5. Just copy that link.
  6. Come back to your homepage and login.
  7. Go to your control panel and go to the My Video section.
  8. Paste the code that you took from You Tube here in the space provided for the same and save.
  9. Now you are ready to see your video from your Homepage and also show it to your friends by inviting them.

What are Karma Points ?

Karma Points are the points a homepage gets based on his homepage points. Thus a homepage with higher points has higher karma points and a homepage with lower homepage points has lower karma points. A new member gets 5 karma points(at first level) and as his activity on the site increases, his karma points increase.
When a member with higher karma points (say 25) votes on a link, he will give 25 points to that webpage against a person(say who has 10 karma points), who will leave only 10 points. The homepages will also see an increase in their levels as they get more points..

  1. Feeds Directory : We have provided an extensive Feeds directory from where the feeds can be added in a very simple way. Login and go to your ‘Feeds’ section. On the left panel , there is a link ‘Add new feeds’. Click on this link and you will see the ‘Featured Feeds’ and ‘Feeds Directory’. Featured feeds contains sponsored feeds and feeds directory contains feeds by category. On opening of the same, you will find some categories like ‘News’, ‘Finance’ , ‘Politics’ etc. Clicking on these opens the subcategories and/or feeds in this category. When you see the actual feed(specified by site name), just click on the same and a preview of the same will be shown. If you like the preview, click on ‘Add to my feeds’ and the feed will be added on the top section of your feeds. Keep on adding as many feeds as you want to add.
  2. Add own Feed : You want to add your own feed ? Just click on ‘Add a new feed ’ and you will be shown a box where you can enter the feed address. Just save the same

How do I find the feed address from a site ?

Let us take an example.If BBC news is your favourite news site, you can see the latest information from BBC on YOUR HOMEPAGE . All you have to do is to enter the code from BBC as per the details below

  • Step 1 – Go to www.news.bbc.co.uk and look for this sign
  • Step 2 – Click on this sign. Eg , you click on the Sports Feed
  • Step 3 – Reach the BBC Sports Feed page and see the link in your browser - it will be something like this http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/sportonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml
  • Step 4 – Copy this link and paste to the feed box (which opens on clicking ‘Add a new feed’). And you are done! Now , you can go to your homepage and See the News from BBC there!!

What is the frame/navigation bar which appears when we click on any Feed Title or on ‘View in a chain’?

We have provided a unique navigation bar/frame which enables users to have a detailed view of their feeds in a chain. This bar has many elements which are explained below:

  1. Title of the page : shows the title .Click on this title to see other feeds to see the titles of all the feeds of this member .Click on any title to open it.
  2. NEXT : Click here to see next feed of this member.
  3. Previous : Clicking here shows the previous feed.
  4. RSS : this symbol shows that anyone (who is not a member of Inpagez.com) can also get the RSS feeds of this member’s feeds from the URL here.
  5. Search : Click on this and you will be shown the option to search the site for any search keyword from the whole site or from Member links, Member Videos , Inpagez Directory and Feeds..
  6. Votes: This shows the number of people who have voted on this feed.
  7. Karma: Each member of Inpagez.com gets karma points according to the usage of the site by them. These karma points increase as one has more links/videos/feeds/maps etc on one’s homepage, the wider network they have on the site and when one is more active on the site through voting, commenting etc. Thus a person with low activity on the site will leave lesser number of karma points to a feed when he votes and vice versa.
  8. Comments: Just click on ‘Comments’ to see if anyone has commented on this feed. You can leave comments if you are logged in.
  9. Added by : This shows how many members on the site have added this feed to their homepage.
  10. Clock Symbol: This is the timer facility whereby you can browse through all links just by entering a number (say 20 ) and the feeds will automatically open one by one every 20 seconds. You can stop or pause this auto play at any time from the symbols which will appear on the frame.
  11. ADD : The feed that you are currently viewing can be added to your homepage(if you are a member of Inpagez.com and logged in) by clicking here .You can edit the feed title ,tags etc..
  12. Share: Click on this link if you want to share this feed with your friends. Just enter their email addresses and send.
  13. SF+ : For those who are logged in , adding this feed to their homepage is a single click job. Clicking on SF+ places this feed on their homepage with the same title and description as shown currently.
  14. A-Z by title : The current display of the feeds of this member is in an alphabetical sequence. You can change this option by clicking here and display his/her feeds by the following:
  • -Views: The feeds with the highest views will open first and then second and so on.
  • -Comments: The feeds with the highest number of comments will open first
  • -Votes: The feeds with the highest KARMA POINTS will open first.
  • -Most added : The feeds which have been added by maximum number of members will be opened first.
  • -Last Added : The feeds which has been added last by the member will show first.

Just click on the alert and you will see what new content has been added by your friend. You can also add the same if you want – immediately!

What is the meaning of the section ‘ My Videos’ ? Where can I get videos from ?

  • Want to save your favourite videos and see them at leisure anytime? Just search for the Videos from your homepage itself . You can search for three main video sites – Youtube, Metacafe and Google.. View any video and if you like, just add with a single click.. Its damn easy!

What is content alert ?

  • We realized that members want to always know what their friends are doing on the site . So we provided a facility where a member can subscribe to any homepage and get to know the latest content added on this homepage – without visiting the same.

How do I subscribe to content alert ?

  • Just login and go to any homepage that you like . Click on the ‘Subscribe to page’ link on the right panel.

How do I use the content alert?

  • Suppose you see ‘Content Alert – 5’ on your homepage.
  • Click on the same(if you are logged) and you will see a window with the names of homepages whom you have subscribed. A number would be given against the homepages who have added new content.
  • Click on the figure (say ‘Video -2’ under the homepage of ‘Sonia’
  • You will see the titles of new videos added and can view the same.
  • If you like the videos, simply click on ‘Add to your HP’ and this video will be added to your homepage. Isn’t it cool to never miss knowing what your friends are doing on the site?

Private Message Alert

  • Provides alert on any new private messages that you receive

Recent Visitors/Recent Fans/New Scrap Alerts

  • Get to know how many new visitors have visited your homepage and added scraps in last few days. Also if anyone has added you as fan.
